In February 2004, Nepal and Bhutan entered BIMSTEC at the 6th Ministerial Meeting held in Bangkok, Thailand. Then the name BIMSTEC (Bay of Bengal Initiative for Multi-Sectoral Technical and Economic Cooperation) was taken.
