In 2019, almost 33 million fresh displacements were reported in the ‘Lost at Home’ report.
Around 25 million were caused by natural disasters and 8.5 million were caused by conflict and violence.
In India, more than 5 million people were internally displaced due to natural disasters, conflict and violence in 2019, marking the world’s largest number of new internal displacements during the time followed by the Philippines, Bangladesh and China.
The report claimed that natural disasters have contributed to more new displacements than conflict and violence.
In the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) and sub-Saharan Africa, the largest number of internally displaced children are found due to violence.
