Context:

Ministry of Tourism released three Draft National strategies and roadmap for promoting tourism in India.

It aims to identify, diversify, develop and promote tourism products.
It will help to overcome the aspect of seasonality and will promote India as a 365 days’ destination to attract tourists.

Heal in India’s brand for promoting India as a medical value travel destination.
Enable digitalization by setting up an online medical value travel portal.
liberalised visa policy and better air connectivity.
Establishing National Medical and Wellness tourism promotion board.

Founded in: 1967
The Ministry of Tourism is the nodal agency for the formulation of national policies and programs and for the coordination of activities of various Central Government Agencies, State Governments/UTs, and the Private Sector for the development and promotion of tourism in the country.
This Ministry is headed by the Union Minister of State for Tourism (Independent Charge).

India Tourism has grown consistently to reach 13th rank in the world in terms of International Tourism Receipts and 22nd rank in terms of International Tourist Arrivals as per UNWTO data for the year 2019.
India has improved its overall rank to 34th position in World Travel and Tourism Competitiveness Rank in 2019, but its rank under Environment Sustainability has been 139, 134, and 128 in the years 2015, 2017, and 2019 respectively.
India has also ranked poorly in adventure tourism securing 96th position in the Adventure Tourism Development Index 2020, which is much lower than its neighbors Bhutan (14), and Nepal (67). India is also not a preferred destination for nature tourism.
