A preamble was first used in the American constitution. The opening or preface to the constitution is known as the preamble. The constitution’s preamble is based on Pandit Nehru’s “objectives resolution,” which was authored and moved by him and passed by the constituent assembly on November 26, 1949.

      Keywords in the Preamble:

      • We, the people of India: It denotes the people of India’s ultimate sovereignty. Sovereignty refers to the state’s independent authority, which is unaffected by any other state or external power.
      • Sovereign: The term indicates that India has its own independent authority and is not under the control of any foreign power. The country’s legislature has the authority to enact laws that are subject to specific restrictions.
      • Socialist: The word refers to the pursuit of socialist goals using democratic means. It believes in a mixed economy, in which the private and public sectors coexist. The 42nd Amendment, which was ratified in 1976, added it to the Preamble.
      • Secular: The term refers to the fact that all religions in India are treated equally by the government in terms of respect, protection, and assistance. The 42nd Constitutional Amendment, passed in 1976, included it in the Preamble.
      • Democratic: The term signifies that the Indian Constitution has a well-established shape that is based on the will of the people as expressed in an election.
      • Republic: The term denotes that the state’s leader is chosen by the people. The President of India is the elected head of state in India.
