Santhal
The Santhal are the largest and one of the oldest tribes in India, They are spread across Assam, Bihar, Chhattisgarh, Jharkhand, Odisha, and West Bengal. From time immemorial they have cleared forests, tilled the land, and produced food for subsistence. The Santhal system of governance, known as Manjhi-Paragana, can be compared to local self-governance.
