Global Energy Review 2020 has been issued by the International Energy Agency ( IEA), describing the effect of Covid-19 on global energy demands and CO2 emissions.
IEA’s Global Energy Review 2020:
Global Oil demand was also severely affected, down nearly 5% in the first quarter, largely due to a decline in mobility and aviation, accounting for nearly 60% of global oil production.
The road transport operation globally was almost 50 percent below the level for 2019 by the end of March and aviation 60 percent below.
Global energy demand declined by 3.8% in the first quarter of 2020.
Global coal demand was struck the hardest, dipping by almost 8% relative to the first quarter of 2019.
Global gas demand was declined by only 2%.
Demand for renewable energy increased in COVID.
Electricity demand has been significantly reduced as a result of lockdown measures by 20%.
In 2020, the study predicts that electricity consumption will plunge/fall by 6 percent, which is seven times the downturn since the global financial crisis of 2008. In the first quarter of 2020, global CO2 emissions were over 5 percent lower than in 2019.
