It is an international Inter-Governmental Organization (IGO) grouping of 27 developing countries. Its vision is to promote South-South cooperation towards the attainment of the global population and reproductive health agenda for sustainable development through the governments, NGOs and private sector organizations.
It was created at the International Conference on Population and Development (ICPD) in Cairo in 1994.
Its member countries include countries from Asia, Africa, Latin America and the Middle East, covering nearly 60% of total world population. India is a member country.
The Secretariat of PPD is located in Dhaka, Bangladesh.
