The three major problems faced by Indian cotton Weavers in the 19th century are:

      • The prices of raw materials increased.
      • Weavers have to compete with the foreign imported machines.
      • Foreign cotton products were cheaper and export rates were decreased.

      In Detail:

      • The increased prices of raw cotton: The high price of raw materials hits the cost of manufacturing which results in the high cost of finished products.
      • Competition with the cheaper foreign cotton products and imported machines: The machines were the key issues for the cotton weavers as machines replaced the costly handmade goods with cheaper ones.
      • Exports rate decreased: People replaced them with cheaper machine-made goods because of the increased cost of handmade cotton products and thus their exports decreased.
      • The local market also shrunk.
